HARRIMAN, Tenn. Roane State Community College is planning to offer in-person classes this fall, officials said.
According to a press release, approximately 70% of classes remain all or mostly online for the Spring 2021 semester.
“With case numbers falling, vaccination rates climbing and the public safety measures put in place over the last 11 months proving effective at preventing the spread of COVID-19, we are ready to bring students back to campus,” RSCC President Dr. Chris Whaley said. ....

Virtual services at RSCC's Roane County and Oak Ridge campuses

Roane State Community College has announced that its Roane County and Oak Ridge Branch Campus One Stop offices will be operating virtually beginning Monday, Feb. 1, until further notice.
The Oak Ridge One Stop has already been operating virtually since Jan. 25, a college news release stated. One Stop staff will continue to evaluate the situation weekly to determine when to resume in-person services at both locations. As a reminder, in-person One Stop services are still available at RSCC satellite campuses.
While virtual operations are underway, Roane and Oak Ridge One Stop staff will be available to serve students remotely during normal business hours. To connect with the One Stop during the virtual operation period, students can use one of the following methods: call (865) 882-4545 between 8 a.m. and 4:30 p.m., email [email protected], or visit the Virtual One Stop Access live chat from 8 a.m. to 4:30 p.m. at the bottom right-hand corner of roanestate.e ....

A new pact giving qualifying Roane State students access to free medical care may be the first of its type in the nation, officials said.
The community college has signed a Memorandum of Understanding (MOU) with the Free Medical Clinic, which has healthcare facilities in Oak Ridge and Harriman.
The clinics normally provide medical services only to eligible residents of Anderson, Morgan and Roane counties. The MOU offers those services to all Roane State students who meet guidelines, regardless of their home addresses.
Available medical services for students in any of the college’s 10 locations in nine East Tennessee counties range from a variety of health care evaluations and treatments to annual physicals, flu shots and other vaccines, lab work, telehealth video calls and medical imaging procedures. ....

Roane State will operate remotely for week after winter break

Roane State will temporarily move to remote operations after winter break as part of the college’s efforts to reduce the spread of COVID-19.
Between January 4 and 8, RSCC campuses will be accessible only to essential personnel, a press release said. During this time, students and employees will still be served by email and phone as well as through virtual communication tools such as Zoom video conferencing.
“We have advised students, faculty, and staff to consider the latest CDC recommendations when making holiday plans this year,” Roane State President Chris Whaley explained. “This brief remote work period is an additional step we can take to keep our campus community healthy while still assisting students ahead of the spring semester.” ....
