Man Proposes to Boyfriend on Virgin Australia s 1st Pride Flight
A plane full of Sydney Gay and Lesbian Mardi Gras attendees witnessed the two men s special moment.
Talk about a mile-high club!
On the first-ever Virgin Australia Pride Flight from Brisbane to Sydney, Chris Lai proposed to his boyfriend Cedric Thiery 40,000+ feet in the air. On my 110th Virgin Australia flight and my first ever Pride Flight, I only have one question for you, Cedric, said Lai over the flight s loudspeaker. He then pulled up his rainbow mask, walked down the aisle, got down on one knee, and popped the question.
We arrive to a boarding gate dressed up like a rainbow piñata. Well-known Brisbane drag performers shimmy down the concourse, passengers pose for snaps in front of multi-coloured backdrops. Golden Gaytime ice-creams and cocktails topped with glittery fairy floss are passed around a sea of fluttering rainbow flags.
VIRGIN AUSTRALIA
Some of the stars of the flight. It s a privilege to lead a company that celebrates diversity and inclusion in the way that Virgin Australia does, and I m incredibly proud of our team who have created such a fantastic event for LGBTQ+ people and their allies to celebrate Pride, Virgin Australia Group CEO and managing director Jayne Hrdlicka says ahead of the flight departing.
