14 April 2021 12:28 pm / 2 comments With the engineering of UK-based Mellors Elliot Motorsport (MEM) providing the support for various rally campaigns entered by the Proton Iriz R5 rally car, we’ve previously known the Malaysian B-segment hatchback to be powered by a version of the 4B11 engine that comes from the Mitsubishi Lancer Evolution X. As it turns out, the heart of this rally car originates closer to home in Malaysia. This 4B11 engine that provides the basis for the powertrain in the Iriz R5 rally car is actually sourced from Shah Alam, pulled from the Proton Inspira. The engine’s rather more mainstream origins compared to the Lancer Evolution matters little, as only the engine block and head area used, with competition-grade products used for parts such as the pistons, connecting rods, crankshaft, camshafts, cylinder sleeves, turbocharger and the like. ....
► Flat-six from 984-generation Cayman S ► Carbon body, adjustable suspension Fifteen Eleven Design has unveiled its latest project, an updated Porsche 914. An often-overlooked classic, the 914 has been totally reimagined with performance and styling upgrades. Available to order now in both left- and right-hand drive, the updated 914 should enter production this year. The biggest change to the standard car is a 3.4-litre flat-six engine from the 987-generation Cayman S. New Brembo disc brakes replace the originals while the suspension gains adjustable coil-over dampers. Eighteen-inch Fuchs wheels replace the standard rims and come equipped with Michelin Pilot Sport 4 tyres. ‘Our vision is to re-create classic cars into modern-day restorations which anyone would be proud to drive,’ said Chris Mellors, managing director of Fifteen Eleven Design. ‘It has an impressive specification that should address the pitfalls of the original.’ ....
UK based classic car specialist and design studio Fifteen Eleven Design is developing a unique Porsche 914 from the 1970s, giving it a modern makeover both in terms of styling and mechanicals. The company, which is a division of Mellors Elliot Motorsport in the UK, has done some impressive work in the past, setting the bar for this new project. Some of their previous work includes a race-spec 1966 Jaguar E-Type, a fully restored 1962 Maserati 3500 GT, and a first-gen Ford Escort Speedster. The design of this 914 restomod seems to remain true to the original, with the only major changes being the LED lighting and widened carbon fiber body. ....
14 January 2021 Classic car specialist Fifteen Eleven Design is developing a modernised take on the 1970s Porsche 914 sports car, complete with a healthy power hike and a design overhaul. The Derbyshire firm is the classic arm of Mellors Elliot Motorsport, the engineering outfit that created the R5-specification Proton Iriz WRC rally car. Previous classic creations include a one-off Mk1 Ford Escort Speedster and a fully restored 1962 Maserati 3500 GT that bagged a runner-up award at the prestigious Salon Privé Concours d Elégance in 2020. The 914, however, will be offered for sale on a limited basis, with both right- and left-hand-drive variants available to order now. ....
