Governor Puts All Counties In Least-Restrictive Virus Status – Associated Press Gov. Michelle Lujan Grisham on Wednesday issued a new public health order that places each of New Mexico s 33 counties in the least-restrictive category when it comes to pandemic-related mandates. While state officials pointed to the decreased risk of COVID-19 transmission statewide, Lujan Grisham s administration acknowledged that five rural counties would have slipped back into the more restrictive yellow category within the state s color-coded risk system had it not been for the new health order. The governor has set a goal of ending the color-coded system at the end of June, as long as 60% of residents are fully vaccinated by then. ....
ALBUQUERQUE, N.M. (AP) â Democrat Melanie Stansbury has won election to Congress for New Mexico to fill a vacant seat previously held by Interior Secretary Deb Haaland. Stanbury prevailed Tuesday in a four-way race after campaigning in support of major initiatives of the Biden administration. Stansbury closely aligned her message to voters with proposed and enacted Democratic legislation on pandemic relief, infrastructure spending and interventions to slow climate change. Her victory shores up the Democratic majority in Congress ahead of 2022 midterm elections. âOur leadership in the House and Senate is working really hard to make sure that we can actually pass something this year so that we can bring money home for critical infrastructure, Stanbury said during the final hours of voting. And this is especially important for New Mexico because it includes funding for things like broadband and clean energy.â ....

Melanie Stansbury prevailing in Tuesday’s special election for the post. Journal pollster Brian Sanderoff called the race for Stansbury after early returns showed she had built an insurmountable lead over state Sen. Mark Moores, an Albuquerque Republican. Stansbury was beating Moores by a 2-to-1 margin, according to early, unofficial results posted on the Secretary of State’s website shortly after polls closed. Stansbury had 64% of the vote. ....
