New leader of political group on Conwy selected

Cllr Goronwy Edwards, who represents Caerhun ward on Conwy Council.
The leadership of the second largest political group on Conwy council has changed after a vote last week.
Deputy leader of the local authority Cllr Goronwy Edwards said it was “time for new blood” in the Conwy First Independent Group (CFIG).
Cllr Edwards who is a former leader of the council said he was “happy” to step aside when Cllr Charlie McCoubrey and Cllr Julie Fallon expressed interest in the post at the annual meeting of their group.
The vote ended with Cllr McCoubrey being anointed leader of the CFIG, with Cllr Fallon and Cllr Edwards being retained as deputies. ....

'Super-council' idea savaged by Conwy councillors

County councillors have savaged what they see as Welsh Government proposals to force local authority “amalgamation by the back door”.
Conwy council’s cabinet discussed its response to the proposed North Wales Regional Corporate Joint Committee (CJC), or so-called “super-council”, at its meeting on Wednesday.
The new unelected layer of government would sit above all six North Wales local authorities and Snowdonia National Park.
The seven authorities’ elected leaders would sit on the new committee with no requirement to run ideas before their respective bodies, nor any opportunity to veto plans that could damage their home organisation. ....

Conwy cabinet members to discuss 'super-council' idea for North Wales

The Welsh Government is pressing on with plans to create a new regional committee which critics have dubbed a “super-council” for North Wales.
Mandarins in Cardiff are consulting with public bodies in the region about a new North Wales Regional Corporate Joint Committee (CJC), which will be discussed by Conwy County Council’s Cabinet on Tuesday.
The body will cover all six local authority areas and Snowdonia National Park Authority.
The extra tier of bureaucracy will cover the economy, development planning and transport at a regional level and there will be three other CJCs set up in south-east, south-west and mid-Wales from September this year. ....
