To mark the publication of
Aperture magazine’s “New York” a special issue honoring the city through photographs and essays by visionary artists and writers, Aperture and Rockefeller Center are collaborating to create a month-long photography program celebrating New York, in the heart of the city, that includes outdoor public art exhibitions, a virtual talk series, and a special Aperture pop-up space.
The Aperture pop-up at Rockefeller Center will feature new limited-edition prints by artists featured in the magazine’s “New York” issue, new books and best sellers, special artist-signed publications, and more. ....

NEW YORK, N.Y. Rockefeller Center in Manhattan is calling serious artists, and aspiring creators from the five boroughs to show their love for New York City by submitting designs specialized for a flag.
The initiative, titled “The Flag Project,” celebrates the medium of photography and invites New Yorkers and non-New Yorkers alike to submit their photos,
83 of which will be produced as 8-foot by 5-foot flags across the Rockefeller Center campus that will be flown together as a temporary exhibition on display from March 27 – April 25, 2021. ....

Aperture Foundation’s Board of Trustees is pleased to announce that Sarah Meister has been selected as its next Executive Director. She will begin her new role in May 2021. As Executive Director, Ms. Meister will serve as the primary creative force and public representative of Aperture, a nonprofit arts organization and preeminent publisher of photography, working closely with the Board and leading the staff of thirty-five to further the organization’s distinguished legacy and set its vision for its future. She will succeed Chris Boot, who will be returning to London after leading Aperture for the past decade. ....

Dawoud Bey is one of the most influential photographers of his generation. The subject of a major retrospective at the Whitney Museum of American Art, scheduled for April 2021, and a new monograph to be published by MACK, Bey began his career in New York in the 1970s, making evocative portraits in Harlem and Brooklyn. In the context of the Aperture Forward winter campaign, Bey spoke with Chris Boot, who is approaching the end of a ten-year term as executive director of Aperture Foundation, about the changes in the world of photography over the decade since the rise of Instagram and the iPhone. ....
