NC COVID 19 vaccine: Hospitals, health departments say they got fewer COVID-19 vaccine doses than requested this week


RALEIGH, N.C. (WTVD) Multiple hospitals and health departments in central North Carolina reported receiving fewer COVID-19 vaccine doses Monday than requested.
UNC Health said it will only receive 10,000 doses this week. That comes after the group said it requested 20,000 doses and has the capacity to administer up to 30,000 doses weekly.
Wake County Health Department reports it will receive less than 1,000 new doses of the COVID-19 vaccine this week.
The department said it requested 3,000 doses, but instead only received one case of the Pfizer vaccine (975 doses).
Cape Fear Valley Health did not release the number of doses it received, but it did say it would no longer be able to accept walk-ins at its vaccination clinics due to a change in the number of COVID-19 vaccines the health system received for the week. ....

COVID 19 hospitalizations NC: Central North Carolina COVID-19 hospitalizations continue surging following holidays


WAKE COUNTY, N.C. (WTVD) Nearly every hospital around the Triangle is kicking up efforts and trying to accommodate the rising number of COVID-19 patients as hospitalizations continue surging.
Really since Thanksgiving, the waves have kind of kept rising, said WakeMed Health Chief Medical Officer Dr. Chris DeRienzo.
Health care professionals are preparing to be in this fight for a bit.
I don t expect it ease off for the next two weeks, said DeRienzo.
Federal data shows, on average each day last week, 25% of ICU patients at Duke University Hospital had confirmed or suspected COVID-19, compared to 22% in the previous week. At UNC-Chapel Hill and Cape Fear Valley Medical Center, 26% of ICU beds were occupied by COVID-19 patients. ....
