East Lycoming School District eyes potential tax increase | News, Sports, Jobs

HUGHESVILLE Although it’s still in the preliminary stages, the budget figures for the East Lycoming School District revealed a possible .58 increase in the real estate millage for the 2021-22 fiscal year.
With this increase, the district’s millage would be increased from 14.38 to 14.96 and residents could expect to see an extra $58 per $100,000 of their property’s assessed value, added to their tax bill.
This first budget presentation was made by Heather Burke, District Business Manager, at the school board’s meeting Tuesday. The final budget is expected to be approved in May.
The proposed general fund budget of $26,747,820 reflects a total increase of $647,700 or 2.59 percent over the 2020-21 budget. ....

Hughesville Baseball Head Coach Chris Kish, left, and Montgomery Softball Head Coach Chris Glenn, both had a roll in providing a softball and baseball season for local high school players who had missed out on a season due to COVID with a summer softball and baseball league.
Chris Kish and Chris Glenn share more than a first name. The Hughesville baseball and Montgomery softball coaches share not just a passion for the games they coach, but for seeing scholastic players chase their athletic dreams.
So when COVID-19 and Gov. Tom Wolf’s mandate ended the spring high school seasons before they started last April, both Kish and Glenn thought more about the kids than themselves. And their thoughts went beyond Hughesville and Montgomery. They both felt horrible that athletes throughout the region could not play the games they love. ....
