Ted Rogers, Canadian icon, tycoon and founder of the Rogers Communications empire, died of heart failure 13 years ago, but the stories he once told, repeatedly, since they never failed to make him laugh, endure.
Rogers, to the average Joe at home was, pre-wireless boom, a cable guy, whose rival out in Alberta was another cable guy named JR Shaw, founder of Shaw Communications, whose eldest son, Jim, took over as CEO in 1998. At the time, the cable guys, east and west, were ramping up their high-speed Internet service offerings and racing to sign up new customers.
