The county’s top school-age karters proved their mettle
as torrential rain showers lashed the Tokoroa venue hosting
this year’s KartSport New Zealand McFall Fuel National
Schools’ Championship meeting on Saturday.
Braving
what one long term observer of the sport described as
‘probably the worst conditions I have ever seen at a kart
race meeting, with very high winds and horizontal rain for
most of the day,’ the 103 karters who had entered this
year’s event simply knuckled down and got on with
representing their school.
At one stage racing was
suspended until conditions improved, but bar the resulting ....

'Shattered' elderly fraud victim gave up on repayment before death

A 91-year-old rest home resident who died without recompense for nearly $30,000 stolen by a worker was left “shattered” by the ordeal, his son says.
On Thursday, two years after $28,900 was siphoned from Alexander Moore’s pension fund, and five months since his death, a judge in the Timaru District Court ordered the thief pay the money back – but the late South Canterbury man’s family are “not holding our breath”.
“Dad was pretty shattered about the whole thing. But he was a bit of a tough old nut and in the end, I think he was resigned to the fact he wasn’t getting it back,” son Graeme Moore told ....
