Christine Fabish has been automatically elected to the Inglewood Community Board following a resignation. She replaces board member Phill Hird, who was elected in early 2020 in a by-election but stood down 10 months later. Nominations closed at noon on Tuesday and Fabish was the only name put forward, meaning she was automatically elected without a by-election. She will join chair Mel Cook and members Jono Burrows and Graeme Sykes, as well as councillor appointee Marie Pearce. The next meeting of the Inglewood Community Board will be on February 9. Meanwhile, the New Plymouth District Council meeting cycle for 2021 gets under way next week with the Strategy and Operations Committee. ....
The Inglewood Community Board is onto its second by-election of the local government term. They had to hold an extra side election just to get a community board, and now Inglewood is going to the polls again after a resignation. In a statement, New Plymouth District Council group manager of corporate services Joy Buckingham said Phill Hird has resigned from his post, after 10 months in the role, and is currently living out of the district. “Under the circumstances, we’re required by law to have a by-election, which will be independently run by Election Services, she said. “The final cost will depend on how many nominations we receive and how many people vote, but it could come to about $21,000.” ....
