L.A. backs new plan for restricting homeless encampments

The Los Angeles City Council voted Tuesday to draft new rules barring homeless people from camping near schools, parks, libraries and other “sensitive” facilities, a sudden change in direction for a city struggling to address a humanitarian crisis while also restoring access to its public spaces.
On a 12 to 3 vote, council members asked the city’s lawyers to quickly draw up a law prohibiting sleeping, lying and storing possessions near a variety of public facilities, including public schools and homeless shelters. It also would bar tents and encampments from blocking sidewalks in ways that prevent wheelchairs users from traveling on them, in violation of the federal Americans with Disabilities Act. ....

C.W. Driver Companies Breaks Ground on Locally Fabricated Modular Transitional Housing Community in Los Angeles, California

CRENSHAW, CA – C.W. Driver Companies, a premier builder serving California since 1919, today announced the groundbreaking of a 60,000-square-foot affordable, transitional housing community in Los Angeles. Hope on Hyde Park is a five-story residential community located on a .49-acre site along the Crenshaw Corridor – a low-rise commercial passageway in the Crenshaw neighborhood. Constructed from locally fabricated modular building units and comprised of 98 steel modular units, the community is designed to be a modern and affordable transitional housing solution for the chronically homeless that provides full wrap around services.
