Several local business owners and citizens are opposing a plan for a new fire station that would replace a parking lot in downtown Logan.
In minutes from the Logan Municipal Council Meeting on May 4, the proposed construction of Fire Station 70 was discussed with a budget of $325,000 and would be located on the corner of 100 East and Federal Avenue near the preexisting fire station, near Lucky Slice Pizza and Le Nonne.
According to minutes from the meeting, Craig Humphreys, assistant chief of the Logan Fire Department, addressed the issue of losing parking. Humphreys said while parking stalls would be lost, parking would be rearranged to maintain around the same number of spaces and more stalls would be added along Church Street and 200 North.

The Zurchers party supply store in Logan will be temporarily closed due to a large flood on Thursday that damaged product and equipment.
Former store manager Jennie Owens â who just so happened to step down from her position Thursday for reasons unrelated to the flood â said a mainline burst somewhere under the store, causing muddy water to seep up through the foundation.
âIt took a while to figure it out,â Owens said.

Logan Fire Marshal Craig Humphreys said firefighters responded to the call around 8:20 a.m. Humphreys confirmed the mainline was feeding the storeâs water suppression system. Since the mainline broke underground and water seeped in from the floor, alarms were never triggered and the water level in the store rose undetected.
