At an age when many police officers start thinking about retirement, Key West Police officer Leo Hernandez joined the local force.
At age 45, Hernandez was actually the second-oldest cadet in the police academy in 2019. Key West Police officer Craig Wynn was a few years older, Hernandez said.
âThey wanted us to succeed,â Hernandez said of the other and much younger cadets. âIt was very physically straining. I have a lot of experience in martial arts and kick boxing, but it still hurt. It was painful, but it was worth every drop of pain.â
The pain paid off. In February, Police Chief Sean Brandenberg named Hernandez as the departmentâs Officer of the Year for 2020.

âThe Chariot,â a sci-fi comedy starring Thomas Mann (âMe and Earl and The Dying Girlâ), John Malkovich (âBeing John Malkovichâ), Rosa Salazar (âParenthoodâ), Shane West (âGothamâ), Scout Taylor-Compton (âRob Zombieâs Halloweenâ) and former NFL tight end Vernon Davis, started filming in Little Rock on Jan. 18. The 20-day shoot, which included locations in the Little Rock Regional Chamber of Commerce, the historic Lafayette Building and Hotel Frederica [formerly Hotel Sam Peck], wrapped the second week of February. âThe Chariotâ is writer/director Adam Sigalâs third feature film. âIt’s a science-fiction dark comedy,â Sigal told us. âItâs a very strange, sort of quirky Dav
