Craig Fletcher, Managing Director at Fortis. Picture: hello@andyhirst.com A WIRRAL engineering firm has received £65,000 in research and development (R&D) tax credits, thanks to the innovation demonstrated in its bespoke projects . Fortis Engineering, located on Woodside Business Park in Birkenhead, specialises in fabrication, including steelwork, pipework and other engineering specialties. After the pandemic, the firm found demand for its work in decline. Indebted to HMRC for corporation tax payments and with some staff on furlough, like many businesses Fortis was going through a difficult time. What Fortis didn’t realise at the time is that the business was entitled to thousands of pounds from HMRC for research and development that was being carried out in the day-to-day of the business.
