esperanza spalding to open her songwriting lab to the public + new music out in June

  Article Contributed by Shore Fire Media | Published on Thursday, May 27, 2021 esperanza spalding’s new musical journey continues in June as she creates and shares music with her Songwrights Apothecary Lab. A curated online portal of new work that represents spalding’s collaborative practice over the past several years, the Songwrights Apothecary Lab explores how songwriters may incorporate knowledge in consultation with practitioners of music therapy, neuroscience and more to create music that can have a specific effect on the listener. Richard King Mellon Foundation gives $150M gift to Carnegie Mellon University

The Richard King Mellon Foundation on Thursday announced its largest ever grant $150 million to Carnegie Mellon University. Half of the historic investment $75 million will go toward the construction of CMU’s long-awaited, cutting-edge $210 million science building on Forbes Avenue, adjacent to the Carnegie Museum in Pittsburgh’s Oakland neighborhood. The remainder will go toward development of a $100 million Robotics Innovation Center and an institute focused on advanced materials and manufacturing at Hazelwood Green, a reclaimed site once occupied by the massive steel mill.

Free trolley will connect three low-income neighborhoods to Schenectady Greenmarket | The Daily Gazette SECTIONS Shares0 SCHENECTADY – Residents of three low-income neighborhoods, where foods from corner stores and fast-food restaurants are more available than healthy foods, are bound for free transit to the Schenectady Greenmarket. The nonprofit organization, which holds a farmers market Sundays outside City Hall, teamed with the Capital District Transportation Authority to launch a free pilot trolley service to residents in Hamilton Hill, Mont Pleasant and Eastern Avenue neighborhoods, starting May 16. The service will run on an approximately 25-minute loop with 15 stops during the duration of the market, which runs from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. The trolley will operate from 9:30 a.m. to 2:30 p.m.

May 5 is National Day of Awareness for Murdered and Missing Indigenous Women and Children SHARE ON: May 5 is the National Day of Awareness for Murdered and Missing Indigenous Women and Children. To mark the day, an event is planned in Duncan to raise awareness of Indigenous women and men from the Cowichan Valley who are still missing and also to highlight the crisis caused by toxic drugs in the community. The Cowichan Missing and Murdered Women, Men, and Children group will hang red dresses and blue shirts to mark the day and has invited members of the Cowichan Leadership group to take part in hanging them.
