BENGHAZI: A new unity government in Libya had raised hopes the war-ravaged North African nation had turned a corner toward peace but analysts warn that major stumbling blocks remain.
Thousands of foreign mercenaries are still on the ground, political factions remain deeply divided and the promise of elections in December seems to be slipping away.
“The honeymoon period of Libya’s GNU (Government of National Unity) is now long gone,” said analyst Emadeddin Badi.
The toppling and killing of dictator Moamer Kadhafi in a 2011 NATO-backed uprising plunged Libya into a bloody, decade-long struggle for power. ....

The United Arab Emirates (UAE) is scaling back its role in foreign conflicts, accelerating a shift from policies it pursued after the 2011 Arab Spring, with the new administration in the US a key factor.
The oil-rich nation has significantly reduced arms and logistical support for Libyan National Army Commander Marshall Khalifa Haftar, five people familiar with the matter said, as a UN-led process to unify the North African country gathers momentum.

(Bloomberg) The United Arab Emirates is scaling back its role in foreign conflicts, accelerating a shift from policies it pursued after the 2011 Arab Spring, with the new administration in the U.S. a key factor.
The oil-rich nation has significantly reduced arms and logistical support for Libya’s eastern-based military commander Khalifa Haftar, said five people familiar with the matter, as a UN-led process to unify the North African country gathers momentum.
