Historic Budgets Approved, Lottery and Gaming Lingers at State House

On Thursday Senators approved the largest General Fund Budget in state history.
The $2.4 billion budget includes a 2% pay raise for state employees.
The Education Trust Fund Budget was also approved on Thursday, it is a 6% increase over last years budget.
$7.7 billion will be allocated from the Education Trust Fund.
It also includes a 2% pay raise for teachers.
The news that the whole state is watching, is legislation on gaming and lottery.
In 2020 the Governor’s Study Group on Gambling studied all year long, and estimated that a lottery would bring more than a half billion dollars to Alabama. ....

The Alabama Senate Thursday approved a General Fund budget with pay raises for state employees; mostly level funding, and very little debate.
The biggest difference I can tell you between this year budget and last year’s budget is: not much, said Sen. Greg Albritton, R-Atmore.
The House late on Thursday voted to send the bill to conference committee. House Ways and Means Committee chair Steve Clouse, R-Ozark, said that there were unspecified issues with the budget, though he said they were not earth-shattering. ....

MONTGOMERY, Ala. (WSFA) - The Alabama Legislature has passed the largest General Fund budget in the stateâs history.
The over $2.4 billion budget was approved by the Senate Thursday. The bill passed out of the House of Representatives back on March 9.
Here is a look at the spending breakdown:
Executive: $2,110,703,000, a 3.1% increase from FY2021
Judicial: $180,793,479, a 2.6% increase from FY2021
Legislative: $43,160,468, an 15.5% increase from FY2021 ....
