The Gondwana/Land Project: Human & Earth Histories in Conversation

Event description A conversation on Gondwana s modern human and earth histories presented by the New Earth Histories Research Program, UNSW. About this Event What does it mean to write the modern history of an ancient supercontinent? Earth scientists know a great deal about the geological history of Gondwanaland and its breakup that began 180 million years ago, eventually creating present day Africa, Australia, New Zealand, South America, South Asia and Antarctica. This panel of historians addresses the possibilities that emerge when we consider Gondwanaland’s national and continental fragments according to a series of modern environmental, cultural, political, colonial, and postcolonial histories.

KU graduate assistant frustrations with boil over into campus march

LAWRENCE Tweesna Mills couldn’t believe the news when she heard the University of Kansas would seek to cut over 400 graduate teaching assistantships like the one she held in the university’s film and media studies department. The third-year graduate student from the Eastern Shoshone-Yakama-Umatilla Nations had received a tribal scholarship for her first master s degree, but her second one required her to work through some of it as a graduate teaching assistant, helping the department’s professors with sections of classes and grading. So when she heard the news that KU planned to cut 40% of GTA positions, her initial thought was denial.
