West Bengal Assembly elections 2021: How to vote from home


Calcuttans who are 80 years or older have the option to cast their vote at home with polling officials coming over for the exercise.
Thousands of voters have availed themselves of the service during the fourth phase, while many more have applied for the same in the remaining four phases.
Here is how the process of voting from home, introduced this year in Bengal, works.

Eligibility
Anyone who is 80 or above and has his or her name on the electoral list is eligible to vote from home. Booth-level polling officers have to provide such persons with “Form 12D”, where they have to state that they want to vote from home.The officers have to take back the filled-in form within five days of the notification of election in that constituency. ....

Kolkata: Senior doctors on the state’s Covid panel have requested the people to keep following rules because Covid is still active even though the number of cases is falling.
Vaccination of healthcare and frontline staff should not be a reason for the rest of the population to feel complacent about Covid, according to doctors. Ajay Krishna Sarkar, pulmonologist at Peerless Hospital told The Telegraph, “We have not eradicated Covid and it is still a long way for everyone to get vaccinated. So there is no alternative to adhering to the Covid protocols because we are still admitting patients who have tested positive.” ....

Dulal Basu, 77, ENT surgeon: I had tested positive for Covid on October 22 and was admitted to Peerless Hospital for 10 days. Recently, I got tested for Covid antibody and the levels were quite high. So, I can do without a vaccine for maybe a month or two. That is why I decided not to take the vaccine in this phase.
I feel that everyone should take a Covid-19 vaccine as that is the most effective way to fight the pandemic. 
Since I have developed strong antibodies against Covid, I want to make way for a colleague who has not been infected by the virus. I have heard limited doses of the vaccine have arrived and so it will be unethical of me to get the vaccine now despite knowing that I have developed antibodies. ....

Kolkata: The city doctors are worried about the apathy among the common people to get them tested for Covid. The number of people turning up for tests has fallen over the last few weeks.
The number of people coming for Covid tests across the state has fallen from 47,000 a month-and-a-half back to just 32,000 on an average across 99 labs, according to health department officials. They are attributing the fall to an increasing sense of reluctance towards visiting clinics for tests. ....
