County Commissioner Butch Patterson, who represents the Seventh District, submitted his resignation from the legislative body on Monday. Patterson explains in his letter that he recently sold his house within the Seventh District and now resides outside the district. State law requires that a member of a county commission reside within and be a qualified voter inside the district represented. âIt has been my great honor to serve the people of the 7th District as well as all Greene County citizens the last six and a half years,â Patterson wrote in his resignation letter. âI want to thank all the current and previous commissioners, department heads and the employees of Greene County for their hard work, commitment and desire to make Greene County a better place to live. You can read more with a press release below… The Greene County Commission has approved the remaining balance of the $34.4 million in CARES Act Relief Funds made available to the County for local distribution. These awards represent the final CARES grants and all funds are now allocated. To help make the funding allocations as equitable as possible, the Commission initially divided distributions by category: Tax Supported Entities-$6.5 million Small Business-$6.5 million Health Care-$8 million A 10 percent reserve contingency for possible emergencies or other needs. The final allocations from the Commission vote include, $1,120 granted from the Small Business category to Aquelia Storlazzi with Innovations Salon for business interruption and approximately $1.5 million from the Reserve category to Greene County and its partner agencies for multiple COVID-related expenses and needs such as PPE, technology and vaccine roll out. A cost of living raise for county employees, the sale of the old Election Commission building and a grant to install playground equipment at Nolachuckey Elementary School will considered Monday by the Greene County Commission. The commission will meet at 6 p.m. via the Zoom virtual meeting application and from the Criminal Courtroom in the top level of the Greene County Courthouse. The meeting will be hosted by a limited number of in-person attendees in the courtroom and be broadcast live on the Radio Greeneville Facebook page. Any citizens with a question/issue they would like to address to the full commission should submit that question to one of the Commissioners who represent their district. The coronavirus pandemic has prevented Greene County volunteer fire departments from conducting many of the annual fundraisers that help sustain them, so end-of-year fundraising efforts are especially important in 2020. Community support is vital for the well-being of Greene Countyâs volunteer departments, said Jeff Wilburn, chief of the Camp Creek Volunteer Fire Department and the Greene County Association of Volunteer Fire Departments. COVID-19 has caused financial challenges for some fire departments. âWeâre in a different dimension right here weâve never went through. Itâs a situation thatâs even more dire,â Wilburn said.
