OHIO LGBT Center co-hosts virtual Rural Voices conference on caring for gender diverse and trans communities in rural America

Scholarship application for free student registration open until Feb. 19
The Ohio University Lesbian, Gay, Bisexual, Transgender (LGBT) Center is co-hosting the one-day virtual conference “Rural Voices: Caring for Gender Diverse and Trans Communities in Rural America” on Friday, Feb. 26.
Open to the public, the conference is jointly organized with Equitas Health, TransOhio, the Ohio University Heritage College of Osteopathic Medicine, and the Southeastern Ohio Rainbow Alliance (SEORA). OhioHealth is a financial sponsor of the conference.
Rural Voices brings together healthcare and social service professionals, community members and activists to focus on the healthcare needs and experiences of gender diverse people in rural areas. Panels include patient perspectives, provider experiences and conversations around parenting and reproduction. This month’s Teen Advisory Council will feature a free journaling workshop for high school age students with Nora Carpenter, young adult author of The Edge of Anything and editor of Rural Voices: 15 Authors Challenge Assumptions About Small-Town America. High school age students are encouraged to join our Teen Advisory Council (TAC). This group meets on the second Wednesday of each month at 6:30 pm at Bookmarks. And this is a beautiful book, one that will appeal to teen readers and anyone else looking for short stories for their variety or are not ready to commit to an entire novel. The stories are also good for teachers looking for readings that can fit into a single class period and still have time for discussion. ....
