Park County Search and Rescue officials say eight snowmobilers were rescued after illegally riding into the Beartooth Wilderness this week.
According to a news release, the sheriff s office received a report that eight snowmobilers from Wisconsin and Minnesota left Cooke City on Wednesday heading into the Beartooth Mountains.

They did not return.
At daylight the next day, crews headed toward the Maryott Lake area. A search and rescue spotter in an airplane above noted multiple snowmobile tracks on the surface of Granite Lake.
A single rider on a snowmobile managed to get the aircrew s attention ....

It was déjà vu for Park County Search and Rescue, as helicopters and snowmobile volunteers were needed in a rescue operation that should never have happened.
The call came into the Park County Sheriff’s Office Dispatch Center at 11 p.m. Wednesday, Feb. 24. Eight snowmobilers, a group of people from Minnesota and Wisconsin, left Cooke City, Montana for an excursion into the Beartooth Mountains and had yet to return.
Park County Search and Rescue immediately mobilized, enlisting the assistance of the Cody Country Snowmobile Association. There was only one problem: they didn’t know where to go. ....

The first of an eventual network of 50 wildlife tracking stations across New England is now operational in southwestern New Hampshire, enabling scientists and conservation agencies to follow the movements of tagged birds, bats and migratory insects across the region.
The station was erected last month in Stoddard on the 515-acre Granite Lake Headwaters property of the Harris Center for Conservation Education, Hancock. It is the newest addition to the Motus Wildlife Tracking System, a global network of nearly 1,000 such stations coordinated by Birds Canada, and which can automatically track a new generation of highly miniaturized radio transmitters small enough to be deployed on an ....
