CHELMSFORD Safety reviews in the town center, North Chelmsford and at spots in the Acton Road vicinity are among the items the Traffic Committee is reviewing.
The board unanimously approved the committee s recommendation for a stop sign for the intersection of Acton Road [Route 27], and Proctor Road.
Current projects
a 25-mile-per-hour sign installed at Westford and Dalton Street;
Flashing stop signs in the town center, at Fishbones Restaurant;
a stop sign ahead warning at Locke Road;
a stop sign installed at Pilgrim and Graniteville Road;
a review of the Byam and Locust intersection.
New actions include cautionary signs for two-way traffic, to be placed at Byam and Locust roads. In progress is an evaluation of the consistency and adequacy of parking signs in the town center.

Danielle Watts gave a shout-out to Sully s Ice Cream Stand, a staple on Graniteville Road since the late 1980s when Ricky Sullivan bought the place, formerly known as Valley Ridge Farm.
While Kathy Malloy Lueck said she would miss the Java Room coffee shop, cafe and wine bar that opened on Littleton Road in the space where Ginger Ale Plaza cafe once was in 2003.

In this winter of our COVID discontent, we have something exciting to look for at our feeders. According to the National Audubon website, this winter is “one of the biggest irruption years of boreal birds in recent memory.”
As you have no doubt noticed, conifers have “mast” years when cones are plentiful and other years when they produce very few cones. Conifers’ primary predators are squirrels and it is thought that these irregular cycles of lean years keep the population of squirrels in control.
When cone crops are meager in Canada, as they are this winter, many squirrels will not survive the winter. But birds that rely on conifer seeds for winter food can fly south in search of food.
