Classic tales and Chinese poetry to be translated into Scots gain funding


TEN new books in Scots have been awarded funding by the Scots Language Publication Grant.
Now in its third year, the grant was created by the Scots Language Resource Network to support Scots publishers and to encourage Scots writers. It is funded by the Scottish Government and administered by Scottish Book Trust.
This year’s successful awardees include translations of well-loved stories such as Aesop’s Fables by Matthew Fitt and James Robertson, and Lemony Snicket by Thomas Clark. Brian Holton will also reimagine poetry of Li Bai and Du Fu (two of the most renowned poets of Ancient China) to new audiences. ....

New signs show UK's smallest town is back open for business


NEW signs have purchased and placed at either end of Llanwrtyd Wells, to let people know that Britain’s smallest town is back open for businesses.
The signs inform drivers that there s food and drink available, as well as a post office, parking, toilets and fuel too. The town has even got some new shops too, so locals will be hoping that more people stop off here to enjoy the town and pump some much-needed funds into the local economy, as Covid-19 continues to ease off and life starts to return to normal.
“Llanwrtyd Wells Town Council are keen to inform travellers that Llanwrtyd Wells is open,” said mayor Lynda Pace Avery. ....

M6 Theatre presents The Storm
Like many theatre companies across the country, M6 had to cancel their tours in March 2020. But that hasn’t stopped the Rochdale-based organisation from creating work for children and young people all across the UK.
One of the affected shows, The Storm, has now been filmed and, alongside a comprehensive education package, is being offered free of charge to all secondary school pupils across Rochdale, in partnership with Rochdale Borough Council Education Service.
This film and teaching resource raises awareness of the climate emergency and is available for all 12,000 KS3 and 4 high school pupils across the district. ....
