The Latest on Lawrence Warunge Murder Trial Having been found fit to stand trial, Lawrence Warunge was Thursday officially charged with five counts of murder. The 22-year-old university student appeared virtually before Justice Mary Kasanga where he was charged with killing his father Nicholas Warunge, mother Anne Warunge, brother Christian Njenga, nephew Maxwell Njenga and construction worker James Kinyanjui on the night of January 5-6, 2021. Warunge entered a not guilty plea. He was set to take plea on Wednesday, but it was pushed to Thursday to allow the prosecution to complete a miscellaneous application that had been filed at the Kiambu Law Courts. ....

High Court Allows DPP To Charge Assa Nyakundi With Son’s Murder The High Court has paved the way for the Director of Public Prosecutions (DPP) to charge city lawyer Assa Nyakundi with murder. In a ruling on Monday, February 6, Justice Daniel Ogembo threw out Nyakundi’s application seeking to stop DPP Noordin Haji from charging him with murder while there is an ongoing manslaughter case at the Kiambu Law Courts. Justice Ogembo ruled that Nyakundi’s application lacked merit and that the DPP did not abuse the legal process by instituting the murder charge against the lawyer. “I am not convinced that the filling of the murder charged herein in the circumstance under which the same was done amount to an abuse of the legal process on the part of Nyakundi,” said Ogembo. ....
