Goal: Protect kiwi birds from extermination. Hundreds of years ago, New Zealand’s forests were the home to millions of kiwis, filling the night air with the echoes of their calls. Now, however, there are less than sixty thousand of these birds left, and the population is still in rapid decline. Kiwis are threatened by extinction mainly because of non-native predators, lost habitat, and humans. They are almost defenseless against introduced predators such as cats and dogs, and their forest habitat has been radically cleared to make room for human housing and agricultural use. This means the kiwi has less space, food, and resources to survive. Hunting and trapping are additional threats. In the wild, 95% of kiwi chicks are killed, but at least 20% of kiwis need to survive for the population to grow. At this rate, these magnificent birds could vanish from the mainland of New Zealand in our lifetime. ....
Letter: In thanks of Ridgefield s public school nurses May 4, 2021 FacebookTwitterEmail To the Editor: During National Nurses Week (May 6-12), nurses deserve our support, recognition and appreciation more than ever. I m writing to recognize a particular group of nurses who are Ridgefield’s unsung heroes, a special team that works continuously behind the scenes to keep our community safe and healthy: the school nurses of Ridgefield Public Schools, St. Mary School and Ridgefield Academy. They donned protective equipment, such as N95 masks, medical gowns and face shields, and cared for students and staff members exhibiting COVID-19 symptoms before they could be sent home l ....

It really wasn t an expectation of mine at all, Collins said. Again, I enjoy the video. I like the creation part. I try to make sure that we re doing this for the right reasons. The Braces Guy s popularity perhaps isn t so surprising. Take a tour. The 30-second videos are slickly produced and edited (Collins does the editing after work). There is an element of zaniness and fun about them. When Collins isn t sporting his blond pompadour, he might be wearing a blue or gold wig, posing as the foul-tempered Karen The Hygienist who mock-shames people into wearing their retainer or making sure they floss their teeth. He is a character, in the best sense of the word. ....
