Denver school board declines to expand autonomous innovation zones

Two Denver schools will not be allowed to join innovation zones at least not right now after the school board denied their applications to enter agreements that would afford them more autonomy and flexibility.
Board members say they’re in the midst of a monthslong process of evaluating innovation schools and zones, nicknamed the “pause and reflect” period. The board has pledged to consider new applications in August.
But innovation leaders, teachers, and families said the delay puts them at a disadvantage in planning for next school year. And they fear that autonomous innovation zones may be falling out of favor with the board. ....

Students asking for help bringing $75,000 Black history curriculum to their school
After advocating for Black history curriculum in Denver Public Schools, four students are nearing their goal. One local donor is the first to join their final push.

DENVER After a year and a half advocating for Black history curriculum in Denver Public Schools, four Denver students are the closest they have ever been to accomplishing that goal. 
Now, they are calling on community partners to help fund this progress.
Kaliah Yizar (15), Dahni Austin (16), Alana Mitchell (17) and Janelle Nangah (18) are all students at Dr. Martin Luther King, Jr. Early College (DMLK) in Denver. Since 2019, the four young ladies have been hard at work to bring a more inclusive account of American History to their school through the Black History 365 curriculum. ....
