Blue skies appeared above Dover, and for the crew of the Valiant, moored off the harbour wall, it was a signal to start readying for action. Fine weather meant more migrants would soon be heading towards them. For those on board the Border Force cutter, it was a familiar routine. Already this year it has brought ashore hundreds of asylum seekers, another 65 last Sunday alone.
So far, 6,000 people have crossed the Channel in small boats during the first six months of the year. The figure for the whole of 2020 was 8,417, a total expected to be eclipsed during the next two months as clement weather makes the treacherous crossing more tempting. ....

The latest official government figures show that more than 100,000 people have now died with coronavirus in the UK.
This morning, we pay tribute to all those who have died and to those who have been left behind. With their families’ permission, here are just some of their stories.

Maria Rico from Leicestershire died at the age of 76 on the 1st of November. Maria s family say she was an amazing person and an incredible grandmother who was never too busy to play with her grandchildren. Her daughter Anabel remembers her mum as a great light in the family. ....

Northwest OKC Food Pantry Expanding Service, Offering COVID-19 Vaccinations

OKLAHOMA CITY -
A northwest Oklahoma City food pantry and medical clinic is expanding services to give the community better access to the COVID-19 vaccine.
The Tulakes Free Clinic and Food Pantry said it is now registered as a COVID-19 vaccine provider. As soon as the shots are distributed, the clinic will be making them available to the community. As of Friday, they do not have any vaccines available to distribute.
“I’m excited about it. You know this is just my opinion, but I certainly think the benefits outweigh the risks,” said Kim Bryan the Clinic Director. “I’m excited for it to become available to our community.” ....
