Chris Suggs Michael Martin file for Kinston City Council seats


In April 2019, Suggs represented his community and state when he testified before Congress in a hearing on the global climate crisis. Kinston and surrounding areas in Eastern North Carolina have been devastated by several floods and hurricanes in recent years, and Suggs has been on the frontlines helping his community respond to these disasters and advocating for funding and legislation to address climate change and flood mitigation, according to the release.
Suggs earned degrees in Political Science & Religious Studies from The University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill, where he served as President of the Black Student Movement and Senior Class President for his graduating class. ....

Senate Bill 355 could have major, positive impact on The Free Press

A bill filed last month in the North Carolina Legislature that would allow the public greater access to the personnel files of state and local government employees  including teachers, law enforcement and city and county workers moved one step closer to passage this week. 
Senate Bill 355, which would grant public access to information concerning terminations, suspensions and other disciplinary actions, passed the Senate Judiciary Committee on April 27 and now heads to the Rules Committee.
If approved by the General Assembly, SB 355 will become effective Dec. 1, 2021 and will directly affect local stories covered by The Free Press involving law enforcement, the school system, and local government personnel. ....
