TORONTO York Region is temporarily closing two of its mass immunization clinics again, including the drive-thru site at Canada’s Wonderland, due to the lack of vaccine supply. Melissa Pinto, a spokesperson for York Region, said in a statement that the clinics at Wonderland and the Georgina Ice Palace will pause vaccinations beginning Tuesday and remain closed until additional vaccines are delivered. On Friday, Wayne Emmerson, the chairman and chief executive officer of York Region, wrote a letter to Health Minister Christine Elliott requesting more doses to keep the clinics open and avoid reduction of operating hours in other sites. ....
BARRIE Thousands of dollars in fake currency and several weapons are now off the streets after police raided a home in the City of Orillia last week. According to police, several units executed a search warrant at an Isabella Drive residence at 6 a.m. on April 9. After a search of the home, police say officers seized an undisclosed amount of cocaine, $25,000 in counterfeit Canadian currency, as well as a conductive energy weapon, a prohibited knife, and an imitation handgun. Police arrested and charged a 46-year-old man and a 26-year-old woman, both from Orillia. The accused have been released and have a court date scheduled in an Orillia court on June 15. ....
BARRIE, ONT. Simcoe Muskoka parents are anxiously awaiting an afternoon announcement by Ontario s Education Minister. Stephen Lecce is scheduled to appear alongside Premier Doug Ford at a 2:30 p.m. news conference at Queen s Park. Chief Medical Officer of Health David Williams and Health Minister Christine Elliott are also expected to speak. The news conference will be streamed live on the CTV Barrie website. Sources tell CTV News Toronto the province is considering returning to online learning for at least two weeks following spring break as COVID-19 cases surge.
