KARACHI: The Supreme Court on Thursday came down hard on the provincial and local authorities over unauthorised allotment of land and lack of town planning in the metropolis.
A three-judge SC bench headed by Chief Justice Gulzar Ahmed slammed the Karachi commissioner, director general of the Sindh Building Control Authority and a senior member of the Sindh Revenue Board (SRB) as they failed to offer any explanation about the incorporation of land reserved for a road into a plot in the Sindhi Muslim Housing Society. ....

The Supreme Court (SC) directed the relevant authorities on Thursday to complete the restoration of the Karachi Circular Railway (KCR) and hand over the project to the Pakistan Railways (PR) within nine months.
A three-member bench, headed by Chief Justice of Pakistan (CJP) Gulzar Ahmed and comprising Justice Ijazul Ahsan and Justice Mazhar Alam Khan Miankhel, issued the directives while hearing the case pertaining to the KCR s revival at the SC s Karachi Registry.
At the hearing, Karachi commissioner Naveed Ahmed Shaikh maintained that the KCR track had been handed over to the PR after the removal of encroachments. ....

Angered at encroachments in the port city, the Supreme Court (SC) on Thursday ordered immediate demolition of all illegal marriage halls in Karachi.
A three-member bench headed by Chief Justice Gulzar Ahmed heard various petitions related to marriage halls at the apex court’s Karachi Registry.
Advocate Anwar Mansoor Khan, counsel for Korangi Marriage Halls Association, prayed that the marriage halls of Korangi were located on a commercial strip and carry legal status. “The SBCA (Sindh Building Control Authority) should be stopped from demolishing the wedding halls. People do not like to live right on the roadside, that is why the strip has been commercialized,” the counsel prayed. ....

KARACHI: Chief Justice Gulzar Ahmed on Thursday expressed anger at the Karachi Commissioner over the abysmal condition of the city s encroachments, saying that we are going to remove the Karachi Commissioner .
The apex court was hearing a case related to operations against encroachments in various parts of the city when it questioned the commissioner s performance.
Chief Justice Gulzar Ahmed was presiding over the hearing at the Karachi Registry of the Supreme Court. The Karachi Commissioner and other senior officials were present for the court hearing. ....
