Kitsap Transit to add back Sunday bus service over the next two years

Kitsap Transit to add back Sunday bus service over the next two years View Comments Kitsap Transit will be able to slowly reintroduce Sunday bus service over the next two years and fund $125 million in capital projects thanks to a surprisingly healthy economy and an influx of federal funds, transit officials announced Tuesday.  Kitsap Transit axed Sunday bus service during the Great Recession, and its return has remained a contentious topic in the decade-plus since. Strong sales tax growth over the last several years combined with federal COVID-19 relief funds have resulted in a budget surplus that Kitsap Transit plans to use to stand up Sunday service and fund a plethora of capital projects.

All seats are opening, but masks are still required on buses

All seats are opening, but masks are still required on buses Graham Johnson More people are being allowed on buses, trains and ferries as the state reopens. On Thursday, Washington State Ferries, Amtrak Cascades, Pierce Transit, Kitsap Transit, and Community Transit in Snohomish County removed social distancing requirements, opening all passenger seats. King County Metro and Sound Transit will do the same Saturday. Federal rules mean masks are still required on buses and trains, as well as in public indoor areas on the ferries. “For the people who’ve been riding the bus the whole time, they just expect it now,” said Pierce Transit passenger Hannah Wilson.
