‘We’re so tired,’ says organizer of Kalamazoo protest about the fatal police shooting of Daunte Wright Updated 10:52 PM; Facebook Share KALAMAZOO, MI – Protesters peacefully marched through downtown Kalamazoo chanting “Black Lives Matter” on Friday night. Approximately 80 people gathered at 7:30 p.m., April 16, in front of the Kalamazoo County Courthouse, five days after Daunte Wright, a 20-year-old Black man, was fatally shot by a white police officer during a traffic stop April 11, in suburban Minneapolis. “We are so tired,” Ryan Singleton (who goes by King Ryan) said. “We are mourning, and you can’t tell us how to mourn. We are mourning to be Black in America and to be constantly be in a state of mourning.” ....
Protesters chanted, âBlack lives matter,â as they walked from the Kalamazoo Courthouse down to the Kalamazoo Mall. Drums were played to the words as cars drove by honking on their horns in support. Handheld signs read, âSay their names,â and âBelieve Black voices.â This was in honor of all the members of the Black community who have lost their lives in the hands of the police, said King Ryan, executive director of Uptlift Kalamazoo. âWeâre not here to protest for George Floyd, or Breonna Taylor, or Daunte Wright or Philando Castile,â Ryan said. âWeâre here to protest against all the Black people whose names we donât know.â ....
