Days after rescuing a trio of fishermen from a cool night out on Kootenay Lake, the Kaslo Search and Rescue recognized some of its members with individual awards.
“Like so many organizations, Kaslo Search and Rescue recently resorted to an online Christmas gathering to, well frankly, relax a little and celebrate the recognition of some members for outstanding contributions,” the Kaslo Search and Rescue media release said.
“For a region with a population of not much more than a thousand people, the local Search and Rescue agency (performed) as many searches and rescues as Central Okanagan Search and Rescue did in 2019 which serves a region of 160,000 people.”
Non-profits in B.C. are set to receive funding from B.C.’s Community Gaming Grants.
The $11 million grant is going to organizations to help boost conservation and public safety programs that will benefit British Columbians around the province. The province is providing about $4.8 million to 138 environmental organizations in 2020-21. Here in the North Prince George Recycling and Environmental Action Planning Society will be receiving $26,000.
In 2020-21, 132 not-for-profit organizations that provide emergency and lifesaving services are receiving approximately $6.3 million to deliver their programs province wide. Organizations receiving this funding include, B.C. Search Dog Association, Fraser Region Community Justice Initiatives Association, Kaslo Search and Rescue and Horsefly Volunteer Fire Department.

The B.C.’s Community Gaming Grants are giving over $11 million to non-profit organizations around the province, eight of which are in the West Kootenays. The funding is designed to boost conservation and public safety programs.
“Our government is committed to supporting local organizations involved in a wide variety of activities that contribute to building vibrant, healthy communities,” said Josie Osborne, Minister of Municipal Affairs. “This funding ensures community organizations can continue to provide programming to enhance public safety through emergency programs like search and rescue and to steward and preserve our ecosystems for generations to come.”
