They were practising flying in V formation, but as they attempted a 180 degree turn to the right, something went badly wrong. Two aircraft collided, one went headfirst into the peat and burst into flames, while the other managed to limp back to base at RAF Castletown.

The virtual display, called Highland Threads, features a selection of historical garments. Another item is a child s knitted swimming costume from the Highland Museum of Childhood in Strathpeffer. Some of the costumes will also be on display at their museum to be viewed by visitors once Covid-19 restrictions are relaxed and the museums can open again.

Joanne B. Kaar, who is one of the Lyth Arts Centre artists in residence, is to hand stitch the names of carers from across the county onto a care-worker s uniform. A second garment will feature the names of anyone in Caithness community who has felt increasingly isolated throughout the pandemic. The items will feature in her new TEXTiles project.

Joanne B Kaar, from Dunnet, will also stitch the names of those who have felt increasingly isolated during the pandemic onto a second garment. She’s now calling for people to submit their names, or those of others, so that she can carry on stitching for the rest of the year.
