Gaston Dance Theatre invites you to journey down the yellow brick road with them in their rendition of the Wizard of Oz. Journey to the Land of Oz will take to the stage tonight at 7:30 p.m. and Saturday at 1 p.m. and 7:30 p.m. at Gaston Christian School. Tickets are now on sale now at gastondance.com. Tickets range from no cost for ages under two to $17 for adults. Dancers of the production range from ages seven to 18, not including the eager adults that couldn t help but volunteer. According to Gaston Dance School and artistic director Camilla Bullard, this spring program holds a special place inside the hearts of the dancers considering COVID prevented their last spring production. ....
East Gaston High junior Aaron Hollar plays a musical instrument nicknamed the tenor tuba. Across town, 17-year-old Ashbrook student Amarah Kendrick s commitment to dance has landed her lead roles, such as Clara in the holiday classic The Nutcracker. These two bright Gaston County students plan to spend their summer at North Carolina s Governor s School, the oldest statewide summer residential program for gifted and talented students in the United States. Seventeen Gaston County high school students have an opportunity to attend the prestigious Governor’s School of North Carolina this summer, offering them a glimpse at college and the chance of meeting other high-achieving young people from across the state. ....
