Star Trek: The Next Generation had one actor in contention for the role gotten the gig. Before Patrick Stewart was ultimately given the role and made it iconic, actor Yaphet Kotto was considered by Paramount as someone in the running to play Jean-Luc Picard.
A recently resurfaced memo shared by JoBlo.com from
Star Trek: The Next Generation s casting listed Yaphet Kotto (who recently passed) as well as others in the running for the role of Picard. The memo, which was sent out in April of 1987, laid out all the actors in consideration for the series, including Wesley Snipes as Geordi La Forge. Kotto was the only Black actor listed for the role of Picard and about fourth down on the list. ....

Station log: Sisko goes to Marva IV, a Maquis colony, to meet with a contact who has information about Eddington’s whereabouts. Instead, he’s confronted by Eddington. The Maquis learned of the informant and trapped him on a planet in the Badlands for his trouble. Eddington shows Sisko the refugees from a Federation colony ceded to the Cardassians. Sisko points out that they were offered resettlement, but Eddington says they don’t want that, they want to go home. Sisko points out that that dream of going back home is pretty much dead, and these people are living in caves because they believe the Maquis party line. ....

Mannix outing sees Joe taking on a psychopath (Darren McGavin) from his old Korean War unit who’s out for revenge. It s a kick to see McGavin playing a complete wackjob who is a karate master, walks around in 70s sideburns and safari suits and leers threateningly. Joe Mannix ain’t the sharpest tool in the shed, but he gets there in the end, arriving at his remote cabin in the nick of time to save Peggy and her son from certain death. Just desserts are dished out, in the usual comfort TV fashion. Also with Paul Mantee and Dane Clark (who makes his second of three appearances as police Lt. Deegan). ....
