Galway Technology Centre, which provides office space for growing companies, is to expand in a move that it claims could lead to a sharp rise in jobs for the region. The centre, which was established in 1994 as a social enterprise in the wake of the closure of Digital Equipment Corporation, is to embark on a 22,000sq ft (2,043sq m) expansion that will see the total floor area extend to 72,000sq ft (6,689sq m) and with the number of floors in the facility growing from two to four. ....

Posted in Technology Galway Technology Centre, (GTC) is to announce details of their new AcademyWest expansion, which is expected to generate a cumulative total of 12,500 jobs for the West over the next 15 years and estimated investment of €1.4 billion. The expansion project is being strongly facilitated by Enterprise Ireland, who provide ongoing support to Galway Technology Centre. The centre is a social enterprise jointly owned by Galway Chamber and WestBIC. The AcademyWest project will have a particular focus on facilitating rapid scaling for start ups and other innovation driven enterprises, as well as growing ICT businesses in need of second sites. Galway Bay FM 5 April 2021 print Galway Bay FM Newsroom – Members of the public are being urged to donate their unwanted laptops as part of the Galway Tech2students initiative. The programme was first launched in April 2020 by the Trinity College Dublin Access Centre in response to the digital divide experienced by many students in DEIS schools. The Galway collection drive is being coordinated by Galway Chamber and NUI Galway’s University of Sanctuary initiative. Anyone who wishes to make a donation can drop laptops at the Galway Chamber offices, on Merchant’s Road, every Tuesday between 9.30am and 4pm. Meanwhile, tech2students volunteers can send out postage labels to help people who live more than 5km from the city to donate. ....

Key partners in the dynamic CREW initiative are the Galway-Mayo Institute of Technology (GMIT), the Western Development Commission (WDC), and the Galway Film Centre (GFC). CREW has appointed Niamh Costello formerly of Galway Technology Centre as Chief Executive. CREW’s focus will be on the development and scaling of creative digital entrepreneurs, job creation, incubation, and accelerator programmes, training, and outreach services along the Atlantic Economic Corridor. Plans are also underway for the development of a Centre of Excellence providing enterprise and co-working space, on the GMIT Centre for Creative Arts & Media, Cluain Mhuire campus, Galway. ....
