Vet discovers three-eyed calf on North Wales farm Published On Vet discovers three-eyed calf on North Wales farm (Dunya News) – A calf was born in a North Wales farm with a third eye in the middle of its forehead. Veterinarian Malan Hughes, who discovered the calf while testing cattle for TB, said she had “never seen anything like” before. “From the outside the extra eye looks fine. It has eyelids and eyelashes, and it is moist too, as if some kind of lubricant is being secreted,” she added. The veterinarian said, “But it’s impossible to know if anything is going on behind the eye. It does not act any differently from any other calf. As a veterinary practice, we will certainly be treating it with the same care we give every animal.” ....

As part of OneHealth, efforts to address the global challenge of antimicrobial resistance, legislative and policy changes are being introduced at European and national level centred on agricultural antibiotic use. The European Commission’s Farm to Fork strategy has set a 2030 target of reducing sales of antimicrobials for farmed animals and in aquaculture by 50%, while the EU will introduce new regulations in 2022 on veterinary medicinal products and medicated feed. ....
