UK urges FG to remove tariff on solar equipment The Punch

The United Kingdom has called on the Federal Government to consider the issuance of a tariff and duty exemption on solar equipment to improve Nigeria’s energy access and fast-track its low carbon energy transition.
In response to this, both counties are expected to establish a bilateral technical group to review the proposal and report to the Nigeria’s Minister of Industry, Trade and Investment and the Minister of Finance for necessary action.
These developments were contained in a communique issued on Tuesday at the end of the Fifth Ministerial Meeting of the United Kingdom-Nigeria Economic Development Forum, which was held virtually.

The Senate Committee on Ethics and Privileges have directed the Comptroller-General of the Nigeria Customs Service (NCS), Col Hameed Ali (rtd.) to ensure that officers of the service return bags of rice and money seized from shops in popular Oja Oba market in Ibadan, during a raid.
This followed a petition by Senator Kola Balogun who represents Oyo South Senatorial District complaining of the seizures.
The petition according to Senator Balogun was on behalf of the affected traders who said their shops were raided during which bags of rice and money were collected.
Following the petition, the Senate President, Dr. Ahmad Lawan, had referred the matter to the Senate Committee on Ethics, Privileges and Public Petitions to carry out an investigation on the allegation of looting by the Customs.

Importers and customs agents operating at the nation’s seaports have called on the Comptroller-General of the Nigeria Customs Service (NCS), Col Hameed Ali (rtd) to promote the acting Controller, Federal Operations Unit (FOU), Zone A, Ikeja, Yahaya Usman and officers of the unit that intercepted explosives and Indian hemp smuggled into the country from Benin Republic.
The clearing agents said automatic promotion for the officers and Usman’s elevation to a full-fledged controller would serve as morale booster to other officers in the service.
The agents described the seizure as spectacular due to the current security threats and increased crime rates around the country, especially in the South-East and Northern part of the country
