Galloway PLANS FOR the development of a Galloway National Park, in south-west Scotland, seem to be splitting the opinion of local farmers, contrary to previous claims that the scheme had widespread industry support. Instead, some farmers insist that there has not yet been enough information about the likely impact of a national park designation, and further investigation must be carried out before it goes any further. Dumfries and Galloway NFU Scotland regional chairman Colin Ferguson explained that many people want to see more evidence about the benefits of such a development, saying there were concerns about additional unnecessary restrictions and bureaucracy : “Without such information being provided, NFUS could not be informed nor persuaded as to the merits of a national park and how it would benefit the region’s agricultural industry in terms of development aims. ....
