A group of Highland arts organisations have teamed up to help the local sector fight back from Covid – with six new jobs up for grabs.
The Culture Collective is a national pilot programme that will bring together artists, organisations and communities to make a positive difference in response to Covid-19.
As part of the project, six new roles – a project manager and five artists in residence – have been created. It is hoped these new roles will help to shape the cultural future of life in the Highlands. ....

Lochaber’s Gaelic primary school has become so popular that it is being extended with two new classrooms.
Construction work will begin this week on an extension to Bun-Sgoil Ghaidhlig Loch Abar, which is based in the village of Caol, three miles from Fort William.
The school building opened in August 2015 with four classrooms and two nursery rooms, and was designed to allow the addition of up to four classrooms to meet future demand if required. ....

Gaelic education staff hailed for support to Highland learners during lockdown

MEMBERS of Highland Council’s Gaelic committee have heard how education has continued throughout the coronavirus pandemic.
During lockdown, a blog was created to enable early learning practitioners to support families, with online ‘Bitesize’ training sessions also due to go live for practitioners to support them in their training requirements to deliver immersion learning.
A range of online resources to support pupils and their parents at home has also been created with partners and is available on the council’s digital learning hub. ....

The virtual delivery of the Blas festival by Fèisean nan Gàidheal has been commended by Highland Council’s Gaelic committee.
A programme of concerts, cèilidhs, workshops, lectures and more celebrated the music, songs, language and culture of the Highlands took place online in November due to the pandemic forcing plans to change. ....
