Protests staged against excessive power outages July 13, 2021 PESHAWAR: The Peshawar Qaumi Jirga staged a protest outside the Peshawar Electric Supply Company (Pesco) Headquarters on Monday against unannounced and frequent power cuts in the provincial capital. Arbab Khizer Hayat, a spokesperson for the jirga and Khalid Ayub, chairman, led the protest. The protesters gathered at the Pesco Headquarters for quite some time to register anger at the excessive power outages. The speakers said the government had failed to provide relief to the people in the hot summer. They said Khyber Pakhtunkhwa produced surplus electricity but its residents were still facing prolonged loadshedding, which was sheer injustice. ....
Hoteliers vow to resist lockdown National May 4, 2021 PESHAWAR: The Pakistan Hotels and Restaurants Association has decided to resist the imposition of the lockdown from May 8. The decision came at a meeting attended by Khalid Ayub, Habibullah Zahid and others. Terming the government decision to impose a lockdown from May 8 to 16th as economic murder of the business community, they sought permission to continue business while following the SOPs. They expressed concern over the government’s decision on closing the tourism spots on Eidul Fitr in the name of coronavirus pandemic, saying the government should prepare a plan to revive business instead of creating problems for businessmen. Tourism, they said, was the only industry in KP that generated revenue and attracted hordes of local and foreign tourists to the scenic places. ....

Jirga warns of protest over heavy power loadshedding Peshawar April 15, 2021 PESHAWAR: The Peshawar Qaumi Jirga, an alliance of various political parties, civil society and traders, has expressed concern over excessive electricity load-shedding in Ramazan in the metropolis and surrounding areas. It warned of besieging the Wapda House, Chief Minister’s and Governor’s houses if the Peshawar Electric Supply Company (Pesco) failed to ensure a smooth power supply to the consumers. The decision to this effect was taken at a meeting held at the residence of Pakistan Muslim League-Nawaz leader and spokesperson for the Jirga, Arbab Khizer Hayat, on Wednesday. ....
MUZAFFARABAD: Eight people were killed and another six injured in two road accidents in the suburbs of the Azad Jammu and Kashmir (AJK) capital on Monday. Both accidents happened in the jurisdiction of Garhi Dupatta police station due to frost on roads, police said. The first accident occurred at about 7am when a wagon travelling between Dachor Faqeera’n village and Garhi Dupatta town skidded off the road and fell 200 feet down into a field, said Zaheer Ahmed, a police official based in the area. As a result, three of the six persons on board, including the driver, died on the spot. They were identified as Murad Abbasi and passengers Sain Khan and Iqra Bibi. The injured were identified as Kabeer Abbasi, Nisar Abbasi and Rafique Abbasi. ....
