CEE-UK Online Interactive Influencers Conference Enhancing Collaboration and Development On 3 March 2021, Visegrad Insight organises the “CEE-UK Online Interactive Influencers Conference” in cooperation with the United Kingdom’s Foreign, Commonwealth and Development Office. The influencers meeting will largely serve to develop actionable policy recommendations, inform UK policy choices and map areas for enhanced CEE-UK collaboration and development. In order to gather authentic and practical insight into contemporary political, economic and social issues, a select group of non-governmental influencers will gather at this interactive event to discover pathways for the UK to recalibrate its relationship with Central European states, including Austria, Bulgaria, Croatia, Czechia, Hungary, Poland, Romania, Slovakia and Slovenia. ....
Discussions on the merits of the gig economy are spreading across the globe as temporary, flexible jobs are now commonplace as well as companies’ stance toward the hiring of independent contractors and freelancers instead of full-time employees. Such flexible, temporary or freelance jobs often involve connecting with clients or customers through an online platform, which is why many working in the gig economy refer to their jobs as platform work. First, it is a difficult task to estimate the size of the gig economy since much of the work may be underreported. A case in point, consider the fact that more than one-third of the Chinese labour force receive additional income by working extra jobs in the gig economy, and moreover, about 10 per cent of the Chinese workers use the gig economy as their main source of income. Nevertheless, the sector is very large and only growing. ....

Financial technology used to imply large banking enterprises cooperating with other sizable entities, and it was a rather stable field which lacked a bit of dynamism. Back then, for a country to be a player on the market they needed to be well-established, have a considerably-sized economy or an abundance of natural resources which allowed them to push for technological advances. Today, that is hardly the case as is noticeable in Central Europe with many smaller, more agile enterprises offering diversified and niche products, changing the landscape with their innovations.
