Christian Demere becomes fourth member of family to lead Savannah oil business

Savannah Morning News Christian Demere has taken the top leadership role at Colonial Group, the company his great-grandfather, Raymond M. Demere, started in 1921. Colonial began as American Oil Co. and it was the first independent wholesale petroleum company in Savannah. Over the last century, Colonial has expanded into other oil-related businesses, including the Enmarket chain of convenience stores and gas stations. Christian Demere is the fourth generation of Demeres to lead the Savannah family business, the Colonial Group, taking over as CEO from his father, Robert H. Demere Jr. Christian Demere said his new role comes with much responsibility, including upholding a high level of standards set by his family and employees.
