New Mexico joins climate change discussion ahead of Biden's summit

Days before President Joe Biden planned to host an international Climate Change Summit, and was expected to renew the U.S.’ goals to mitigate pollution, New Mexico environmental groups joined a national coalition in urging the administration to aim to reduce methane emissions from oil and gas by 65 percent from 2012 levels by 2025.
Biden invited at least 40 world leaders to the summit planned for Thursday and Friday, and many expected he would call for the U.S. to target a 50 percent reduction in greenhouse gas emissions from 2005 levels by 2030.
This would signal a shift for U.S. climate policy from the administration of former-President Donald Trump, who many feared put industry needs ahead of environmental concerns and pulled the country out of the Paris Climate Accord. ....

Yvette Herrell calls for New Mexico to oppose Biden's energy policies

U.S. Rep. Yvette Herrell (R-NM), New Mexico’s only Republican in Congress, continued in the charge against energy policies enacted by President Joe Biden’s administration which Herrell said threatened her home state more than most in the U.S.
Herrell joined a forum held Friday by Republican members of the U.S. House Committee on Natural Resources which pointed to purported negative impacts of Biden’s policies on state economies and America’s oil and gas industry.
Upon taking office, Biden via executive order placed a temporary pause on new federal oil and gas land leases, while calling on the Interior Department to review its federal energy policies. ....
