A new offshore wind plant is to be built at Kashima port on Japan’s east coast and generate 159.6 megawatts (MW) of power at full capacity.
The plant will span 680 hectares and its construction work will start from 2024. It is expected to have 19 turbine generators. Once operational, the wind plant is expected to deliver energy for over 70,000 Japanese locals each year.
Japan’s Wind Power Group, Tokyo Gas and Vena Energy, will establish a joint venture to complete the project.
The project is expected to support Japan’s 2050 carbon neutrality strategy. In December last year the Japanese government set targets of installing 10GW of offshore wind power by 2030 and between 30 and 45GW by 2040 as part of plans to achieve carbon neutrality by 2050 – a target that Japan s prime minister Yoshihide Suga announced in October 2020. ....

Development of the Kashima Offshore Wind Project to be accelerated

Wind Power Group Co., Ltd. (Wind Power Group), Tokyo Gas Co., Ltd. (Tokyo Gas), and Vena Energy Holdings Ltd (Vena Energy) have announced, through Wind Power Energy Co., Ltd., the acceleration of the development of the Kashima Offshore Wind Project. The project is located in Kashima Port in the Ibaraki Prefecture, Japan, and has a maximum capacity of 159.6 MW covering an area of 680 ha.
The Kashima Offshore Wind Project is expected to commence construction in 2024, and once completed it will be capable of delivering clean renewable energy to over 70 000 Japanese households annually.
The project is a joint-venture among Wind Power Group, which has extensive experience as a local wind power generation company; Tokyo Gas, which is a reliable gas and power utility company supplying energy and service to customers mainly in Kanto region; and Vena Energy, which operates, constructs, and develops wind and solar projects in Japan and across the Asia-Pacific regio ....

Japanese JV accelerates 160MW offshore plans

A joint venture of Wind Power Group, Tokyo Gas and Vena Energy Holdings is to accelerate the development of the almost 160MW Kashima Port offshore wind farm off Japan.
The developers said the project, which is to be located in Kashima Port in Ibaraki Prefecture, will start construction in 2024 across an area of 680 hectares.
Kashima Port will comprise 19 turbines.
Wind Power Group chief executive Komatsuzaki Mamoru said: “Wind Power Group is a local company that has been developing onshore and offshore wind power generation projects in the Ibaraki Prefecture for 20 years.
“One of our projects, Wind Power Ibaraki, notably withstood the Great East Japan Earthquake and Tsunami in 2011. ....
