The nonprofit company is excited about 26 housing units now under construction at the site. The work at Lincoln and Garvin Street, combined with 24 more units being built nearby at Bayard Park and Kerth Avenue, will add 50 apartments to the city’s affordable housing stock.
Altogether, the two-site project is known as Memorial Lofts.
“We really have developed a niche for affordable housing, so it makes sense for us to continue to meet that need,” said the Rev. Adrian Brooks, who founded Memorial CDC in 1994.
The company s grocery store endeavor on Lincoln Avenue faced tough headwinds. The store was known as Sunshine Market and other names over the years.

Motorists will encounter lane closures in both directions between Cornelia and Broad Streets due to concrete sidewalks and watermain work. Hornsby, who lives in the Forest Park area, in the 1300 block of Fairview Avenue, has been charged with possession of controlled substances with intent to deliver, aggravated resisting arrest, aggravated battery to a peace officer, obstructing a peace officer, possession of marijuana and driving while license revoked.
