Carlsberg and Heineken rise, among top gainers on Bursa The Edge 15 hrs ago Syafiqah Salim © Provided by The Edge KUALA LUMPUR (July 19): Carlsberg Brewery Malaysia Bhd and Heineken Malaysia Bhd emerged among the top gainers on Bursa Malaysia in the morning session today as investors bet on their resurgent recovery. Carlsberg opened at RM21.20, reaching an intraday high of RM21.66 before settling at RM21.60, making it the second top gainer on Bursa at the 12.30pm break. At RM21.60, the group was valued at RM6.6 billion. Heineken also rose 22 sen or 1.01% this morning to settle at RM22, with a market value of RM6.65 billion. Heineken the fifth top gainer so far today saw a trading volume of 85,900 shares.

Carlsberg hopes for on-trade recovery this year

As to Carlsberg’s prospects this year, he stated in broad terms that the brewer is hopeful of growth but conceded that the year did not start on an easy note, given the movement control order (MCO) in the first quarter. If there are no more lockdowns, Clini hopes to see a progressive growth.

Press Metal and PetChem emerge as dark horses in Bursa s largest companies list

KUALA LUMPUR (April 15): While much has been said about the growth of glove stocks and tech counters on Bursa Malaysia, two companies in different sectors Press Metal Aluminium Holdings Bhd and Petronas Chemicals Group Bhd (PetChem) have emerged as dark horses in the list of largest companies. Press Metal was the 28th largest company on the exchange on March 31, 2020 with a market capitalisation of RM13.29 billion, according to Bloomberg data. It rose to 22nd place on Sept 30, 2020 with a market value of RM20.77 billion, and has now climbed to eighth place with a value RM40.46 billion. In short, between March 31, 2020 and today, the aluminium supplier has added some RM27.17 billion in market capitalisation.

KLCI closes slightly higher on buying ahead of stimulus package announcement

KUALA LUMPUR (March 17): The FBM KLCI erased losses to close marginally higher today on last-minute buying interest ahead of the government’s announcement of a new stimulus package. The benchmark index closed 1.01 points or 0.06% higher at 1,624.97 after having stayed in negative territory for the most part of the trading session.  A remisier, Jeffry Azizi Jaafar, said the drop in the index earlier was due to a correction in prices following the rally in the past three weeks. “The market saw financial, plantation and technology [stocks] fall due to a consolidation after recent strong gains on market recovery optimism, driven by the ongoing vaccination programme and a decline in daily [new] Covid-19 infections,” he told
